Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi Dream: Could He Appear in a Hypothetical Andor Season 3?

Ewan McGregor, the beloved actor behind Obi-Wan Kenobi, recently shared a fun little dream of his: appearing in a third season of the hit Star Wars show, Andor. He admitted he was late to the Andor party, only recently watching it and quickly becoming a fan. He realized, a bit too late, that the show’s timeline overlapped with his own Kenobi series, sparking a thought: “Hey, I could be in this!” But sadly, Andor’s second season was its last. This sparked a playful plea to Disney – could they maybe, just maybe, consider a third season?

Could Obi-Wan Kenobi Actually Fit into Andor?

This begs the question: could Kenobi even realistically appear in Andor? The timeline does line up. Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place about nine years before A New Hope, while Andor leads right into Rogue One, which is just before A New Hope. So technically, Kenobi is around during the events of Andor. But there’s a catch. Kenobi is supposed to be lying low on Tatooine, secretly watching over Luke Skywalker. He’s in hiding from the Empire. Having him pop up in Andor, which is all about the growing rebellion against the Empire, feels a bit risky. It’d be like trying to hide in a crowded room wearing a bright neon suit. Not exactly subtle.

Story Possibilities and Challenges

So how could the writers make this work? Perhaps a quick cameo? Maybe Obi-Wan could sense a disturbance in the Force related to Cassian Andor’s activities and briefly investigate? Or perhaps a character from Andor could somehow end up on Tatooine, leading to a brief encounter with Kenobi. Imagine, for example, if someone fleeing the Empire crash-lands near Kenobi’s remote homestead. It would be a chance encounter, allowing for a cameo without disrupting either storyline too much.

However, any significant involvement would require some clever storytelling. It would need to explain why Kenobi would risk revealing himself, and how his presence wouldn’t interfere with his primary mission of protecting Luke.

Fan Reaction and Disney’s Plans

Fans have been buzzing about McGregor’s comments. Some love the idea, picturing exciting team-ups and dramatic confrontations. Others are more hesitant, worried it might feel forced or detract from both shows. The debate is a testament to the passion and dedication of Star Wars fans. They care deeply about these characters and their stories.

For now, Disney hasn’t responded to McGregor’s playful plea. They’ve got plenty on their plate, with a second season of Ahsoka, a theatrical release for The Mandalorian, a Starfighter movie in the works, and Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey. It’s a galaxy full of Star Wars content!
